Hidden Gems #5
A song worth shuffle punch dancing to.
Hello everyone and welcome back to issue 5 of Hidden Gems. Tonight’s song is from a hard hitting, down in the dirt band that I love. The song: “Prophet” by Truckfighters. This song is off their 4th album Universe which came out in 2014. This sludge, doom, stoner rock band has kept me entertained for the past year with their music.
Truckfighters first showed up in 2005 with Desert Cruiser EP, later releasing their debut album Gravity X in 2005. With numerous songs drenched in heavy and dirty distorted guitars and bass, this 3-piece band can really get your blood pumping. “Prophet” is no exception. It is a truly ripping song. It has the perfect mix down tuned bass, a slick guitar melody, booming drums and powerful vocals. It provides just the right amount of intensity to make you want to headbang while still admiring what this 3-piece band can pull off. Whereas I struggle to get any potential meaning from the lyrical content, it does not make the song any less in my eyes. Not to say there isn’t a good story being weaved. I just keep getting distracted by my punch shuffle dancing to pay much attention. Think of my dancing similar to Kevin from the movie Hot Rod dancing to “Two of Hearts” by Stacey Q.
If you are interested in hearing more, I would suggest listening to:
1. “Chameleon” from their album Phi
2. “Loose” from their album Mania
3. “Hawkshaw” from their album V
P.S. watch their live content. They put on quite the show.
As always, happy listening!
